NEW Mighty Mississippi River exhibit

NEW Mighty Mississippi River exhibit
LA CROSSE, WI – After over 20 years of delighting visitors of all ages with hands-on water activities and educational information about the river, the Children’s Museum of La Crosse’s Mighty Mississippi exhibit has been replaced and will open to the public on Saturday, July 27.  The new exhibit is another product of the Museum’s “PLAY it Forward” capital campaign conducted after welcoming the one-millionth visitor in 2017.
“We have been so blessed since opening the Children’s Museum of La Crosse in 1999,” says Executive Director Anne Snow. “Visitors, donors, staff, volunteers, neighbors, media and others who understand the power of play in children’s development and family relationships are helping us make the Museum the best it can be now and for the next million guests. We are thrilled to open the new Mighty Mississippi exhibit!”
The new Mighty Mississippi exhibit, created by Kidzib!ts of St. Paul, Minnesota,  includes brightly-colored fiberglass water tables, working lock and dam systems, a water wheel, sluiceway (gated channel) and collection pond, water “mushroom” and more interactive components. The water is cleaned using ions and UV light technology instead of chemicals. This exhibit renovation is made possible by funding from Brennan Marine and the Glendenning Family Foundation. Addition river-themed items will be added to this area in the coming year.

The Museum’s new Artist-in-Residence program also has a water theme for the month of August. Rachel McFarland will be working with visitors on creative writing activities between Noon and 3 pm on August 10, 11, 24 & 25.  Participation is included with Museum admission and membership. Rachel says “I’m excited to be volunteering in such a unique environment, particularly after the renovation of the Mississippi River water exhibit, since this is my current area of interest”
