The Legacy on Losey: McDonald's to Re-Open July 25th

Courtesy Corporation-McDonald’s is excited to re-open the doors of the very first La Crosse, WI McDonald’s located on Losey Boulevard. The restaurant will open Thursday, July 25th at 5am with a special ribbon cutting event at 9am. 2019 marks sixty years since the restaurant first opened.

It was 1959 when sixteen year old Dick Lommen started working at the first McDonald’s in La Crosse on Losey Boulevard. This was the 141st McDonald’s to be built in the United States. Dick became General Manager while attending the then La Crosse State College. In 1968, Dick had plans to attend Law School when the owner of the McDonald’s, Earl Kirchberger, passed away leaving Dick the option to buy the restaurant. Dick became a McDonald’s Owner/Operator at the age of twenty three. Motivated by a clear understanding of how to improve the service and training and a desire to succeed, he focused on upholding Ray Kroc’s operating principals – Quality, Service, Cleanliness, and Value. With his determination to execute the operating principals better than anyone else he was able to begin the growth of Courtesy Corporation by opening restaurants on George Street, downtown La Crosse, Valley View Mall, and area nearby communities such as Prairie du Chien, Tomah, Decorah, and Eau Claire.

It became a family legacy when Dick’s oldest son Rick, began as a crew member while in high school. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and then went on to earn a law degree at Marquette University. After practicing law in Milwaukee, Rick returned home in 1993 to join his father Dick to help direct and manage Courtesy Corporation's rapid growth. After working every position in the company he became an approved owner/operator in 1996 and in 2007 the President of Courtesy Corporation.

The Losey Boulevard McFamily members are eager to welcome you to the new restaurant. You will notice a modern look and feel with new designs and new ways of ordering with self-order kiosks that in fact allow more jobs to be added. Additionally, guests’ orders will be delivered to tables by crew members, allowing customers to relax and enjoy a more custom dining experience. This is putting more choice and control in the hands of guests by evolving how they order, what they order, how they pay, and how they are served. McDonald’s goal is to modernize most U.S. restaurants by 2020. Losey Boulevard is the first of this design in the U.S.

Today, Courtesy Corporation and the McFamily proudly serve more than 21 million customers annually and employ 4,000+ employees.
