The Legal Assistant/Paralegal position assists the Legal Services team in researching, analyzing and preparing pertinent legal documents and providing general administrative support.

The Impact You'll Make In This Role 

-  Provide confidential support and assistance to the legal department; assist management and staff members with general corporate and administrative documents and presentations

-  Prepare correspondence, memorandums and corporate documents. Assist in the investigation of claims by gathering documents and evidence, organizing litigation documents, and creating chronologies and summaries

-  Coordinate workflow and manage department task list. Responsible for maintaining task and other compliance logs for the Department and managing document intensive files

-  Maintain department files utilizing record and document management systems. Analyze work processes for enhancement and efficiencies; implement new/revised policies, or restructure workflow to ensure timely and efficient      implementation of legal support

-  Assist in the development and implementation of performance measurement tools and standards assessing effectiveness of legal services

-  Coordinate appointments and meetings for the Legal Department and ensure legal deadlines are met

-  Support Dairyland’s Board of Directors as needed; preparing meeting notices, agendas, and draft minutes

-  Schedule meetings and coordinate correspondence for members of Legal Services and other team members.

-  Assist with discovery, investigating and researching facets of law.

-  File comments, petitions, applications, interventions, and other documents, as needed, with appropriate governmental agencies as directed by General Counsel or Deputy General Counsel.

-  Draft legal letters and other legal communications documents.

-  Prepare and manage legal and team budget, provide monthly budget updates.

-  Provide administrative support as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: Associates degree and a minimum of two (2) years of in-house counsel experience. Legal experience in the area(s) of electric/public utilities, energy, regulatory compliance, corporate, or real estate law preferred. Experience in the state of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa or Washington D.C. preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

-  Superior communications skills with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally.

-  Experience and demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and performance of Internet searches

-  Competency with modern office methods and procedures, record and document management systems, telephone techniques, and office equipment

-  Strong listening skills

-  Ability to uphold the highest standards of discretion and confidentiality

-  Efficient multi-tasking and time management skills

-  Demonstrates great attention to detail and organizational skills

-  Expert written and verbal communication skills

-  Ability to prioritize and multi-task duties and projects in fast-paced environment
