WAFER is the largest food pantry serving all of La Crosse County and La Crescent, MN. For many people WAFER is the last resort.
WAFER serves 1400-1500 families monthly.
In 2022, 35,000+ total individuals were served.
WAFER distributes about 17,000 food packages a year.
A food package provides each person in a family about 4 to 5 days worth of food. Contents include shelf stable foods (canned fruit and veggies, meat, cereal, pasta, peanut butter), dairy products (eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese), bakery items (loaves, muffins, sweets), frozen meat, and abundant produce.
In 2022, nearly 1.7 million pounds, equivalent to 1.4+ million meals, were given out.
In addition to in-house food distribution, WAFER offers several programs/services to eliminate barriers to securing food. Programs and services include senior package delivery, weekend backpack program for rural students, nutrition education classes, and outreach services throughout the county via the Mobile Food Pantry vehicle
